The Miss UWIverse Pageant is an annual event held for students of the UWI St. Augustine Campus usually in the second semester of each academic year.  The event is produced by the UWI St. Augustine Guild of Students- Office of the Guild Vice President and welcomes young women between the ages of 18-25 years to participate. The Pageant not only serves as a platform to select a candidate that can ably represent the university’s student body but the pageant also seeks to engage its’ participants in a series of activities and events carefully designed to teach valuable lessons and life skills that would further assist in self- development.

One of the pageant’s objectives is to ensure that the experience molds young women to become articulate communicators, boost confidence and ultimately become all rounded individuals capable of serving as leaders, mentors and role models to their peers and other young women in their community and by extension country.

Miss UWIverse 2016 is themed “True Beauty Exemplified”, a concept that the coordinating committee wishes to explore with the delegates throughout the 4 month preparation period.  Various faculties and departments  at the UWI are represented by delegates who are, from the start, encouraged to have fun, build new friendships, unleash creativity, gain self-confidence, make self-discoveries but above all…. experience much growth in the process!!

Pageant Structure

The 2015 Miss UWIverse Pageant is broken up into two main parts for judging: Preliminary Round and Final Night.

Preliminary Round: This leg of the competition features a series of activities, challenges and events that contestants are required to participate in. These events will all happen before the final judging night and points will be awarded based on the performance of each contestant. Judges will be present at each of the events/challenges and the eventual winners for each category will be announced and presented with special prizes on the Final Night. Accumulated points from the Preliminary Round however are not carried forward to the Final Night, instead, a one-off judging is done at the respective events and contestants all revert to a zero score on the Final Night.  The Preliminary Round comprise of the following pre-judging events: Interview Segment, Fitness Challenge and the Beauty With a Purpose Project.

Final Night: Otherwise known as the Crowning or Coronation Night where contestants compete in four categories namely; Opening Presentation, I AM UWI , Resort Wear, Evening Gown and the Question and Answer Segment (in that order). Each category except the Opening Presentation will be judged. The 12 delegates will all compete in the I AM UWI  Resort Wear and Evening Gown segments however only the Top 6 delegates with the highest accumulated scores would advance to the Question and Answer Round. The Top 3 would then be declared. This segment would then be followed by the Crowning of Miss UWIverse 2016.
